Laura Elizabeth Woollett is an author and critic based in Naarm/ Melbourne. Her short story collection The Love of a Bad Man was published in 2016, followed by the novels Beautiful Revolutionary (2018), The Newcomer (2021), and West Girls (2023). Her books have been listed for numerous awards, including the 2019 Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Fiction and the 2024 Stella Prize.
Laura was the City of Melbourne’s 2020 Boyd Garret writer-in-residence, a 2020-22 Marten Bequest scholar for prose, and a 2025 Keesing Studio resident at the Cité Internationale Des Arts in Paris. She is a 2026 featured critic at Kill Your Darlings.
Her nonfiction debut, Hell Days: into the inferno of hormonal mood disorder, explores premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) through a blend of memoir, research, interviews, and cultural analysis.
Hell Days will be published in September 2026 in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, and November in the US. It is available to pre-order.
